Hey, I’ve gained maybe 20 followers this last week and I figured I would talk about the genetic disorder I’ve been diagnosed with.

Roundabout the end of 7th or 8th grade, I was diagnosed with a really rare genetic disorder called Axenfeld Rieger syndrome. When I started high school, I decided to look it up and learn a bit about it, but there was hardly anything about it online and no wikipedia article at the time. The disorder has manifested itself in me with my defects in my teeth and eyes.

My teeth: Most of the teeth in my mouth right now are baby teeth. The reason as to why this is so is that very few adult teeth developed inside my gums. The dentist was very shocked when he saw it for the first time on an x-ray.

My eyes: Okay so apparently one of the common effects of this disorder is glaucoma. Every day, morning and night I have to put drops in my eyes or else the pressure of the liquid inside my eyes will become too much and damage my nerves at the back of my eye causing loss of vision, if not blindness. It fucking sucks that I’m going to have to live with this for the rest of my life. The misshaped iris is one of the more minor effects of this disorder. Not much I can really say about that part.
